Pennies for Peace
We read the true story
“Listen to the Wind” about the kind villagers in the mountains of Asia
(Pakistan) who saved the life of “Dr. Greg,” an American hiker who had gotten
lost and was sick and hungry. In thanks, he promised to return to help the
village build a school. He started Pennies for Peace, an organization that continues to help build
schools and provide materials and teacher training so that children can have an
education and better life.
Our class is excited to join this effort by collecting pennies (and other coins) starting
now, through Thursday April 12th. Your child will bring home a
container to collect pennies in. They can choose to keep the container at home
until the end of the project or bring it in more often to add their coins to
the class jar. See attached letter for more information.
Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss!
March 2nd,
